    Flower Basket Update

A few people have raised some questions regarding the location and quantity of the flower baskets down Lomond Boulevard.  As was mentioned in the June Newsletter, the intention was to place the 16 donated flower baskets in four clusters evenly down Lomond.  Why the change you ask?

A resolution was tentatively passed by city council to spend over $100,000 on flower baskets throughout the city.  Lomond Boulevard was slated as one of the lucky recipients.  Due to this change, the city made contact with those in charge of organizing the baskets for both Lomond and Sussex.  At the point in time when final decisions were being made as to where to place the brackets, the city planner stated it was being requested and recommended that enough flower baskets be purchased by the city to fill in all the remaining empty poles this summer.  In effort to carry out a consistent look throughout the entire length of Lomond, a decision was made to change direction and place all baskets around Lomond School in coordination with Sussex, who placed their baskets around the Shaker Family Center.   The changes were made with the belief that the city was filling in every other pole from Lee to Warrensville Center Road.

Whether or not the city still intends to fill in the remaining poles this summer or wait until next summer to begin their proposal remains to be seen.  The city has, however, taken over the job of watering our baskets which in and of itself is a huge task.

Despite the changes, the baskets are doing well in the summer heat and look beautiful.  Thanks again for those who donated time and money to the project.  It has been a wonderful sign of the positive change in our community.  And with such positive feedback we hope to both continue and expand the project next year.
